Our Work
SWMPQIC is all about striving for health equity and improving the health of birthing folks and their babies in Southwest MI. Our recent initiatives have included:

Recurring free education classes-including “Birth and Beyond”, “Postpartum Planning- Perinatal Mental Health” and “Infant Car Seat training”

Provider training on perinatal mental health issues

Relationships with The Haven and Grace Health-to create a referral process for supporting pregnant and postpartum people struggling with substance use disorders

Advancing Healthy Birth grants- one time grants offered to seven community based organizations throughout Region 8 to address the needs and barriers of pregnant and postpartum families

Listening sessions, Community Town Halls, and community event participation to hear from families in the Region about challenges, barriers, and unmet needs that affect their overall health and well being

Fostering relationships and facilitating discussions and collaborative work between community agencies, birthing hospitals, providers, and community members

Health equity is achieved when everyone can reach their highest level of health by having fair and just opportunities regardless of race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geography, preferred language, or other factors that affect access to care and health outcomes.
